The Apple Macintosh System Software Center

Apple's policy up to System 6.0.x was that if you owned a Macintosh you could get free system upgrades from your local dealer. Apple currently provides software for machines with at least 1 Mb of memory (see below), but they do not provide software for machines with 128K and 512K of memory.

We believe in the preservation of old computer software, and that this software should still be available to allow future generations a better understanding of the early days of personal computing. We urge Apple to provide images of the following eight disks (in Disk Copy 4.2 format):

System 2.0 Finder 4.1:
• System Disk
• Backup Disk (MacWrite 4.5, MacPaint 1.5)

System 3.2 Finder 5.3:
• System Installation (single-sided update disk)
• Printer Installation (single-sided update disk)
• System Tools (double-sided, with Installer and scripts for the Macintosh Plus and 512Ke)

System 4.1 Finder 5.5:
• System Tools (double-sided, with Installer and scripts for the Macintosh Plus, 512Ke, SE, and II)
• Utilities (Disk 1)
• Utilities (Disk 2)

Apple Logo Merchandise

Apple currently provides most of the software used on may new boats for the owner’s complete control. While this functionality from Apple does cost extra, it’s often worked into the cost of yacht ownership at time of purchase.
